Badminton Singles Rules

Tournament Overview

This is a singles (1v1) badminton tournament held every alternate Wednesday evening. Familiarize yourself with the rules to ensure fair and enjoyable matches.

  1. Format

    Singles matches (1v1). Each match is best of 3 games to 21 points.

  2. Scoring

    Rally scoring system. A point is scored on every serve. First to 21 points wins the game, must win by 2 points (cap at 30).

  3. Service

    Serve must be underhand and below the waist. The shuttle must be hit diagonally to the opponent's service court.

  4. Court Boundaries

    For singles, the court is narrow (inner sidelines) and long (full length including back tramlines).

  5. Faults

    Common faults include: shuttle landing out, hitting the net, serving above waist height, and double hits.

  6. Fair Play

    Respect your opponent and any officials. Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification.
